the underwater drone
a perfect A-flat
sends chills to the bone

The mud dwelling creature
wakes the houseboat folk
and sends out a signal
with a constant stroke

The agressive type 1
slows down to a crawl
and thrums the loudest
with his vociferous call

The devious type 2
has a plan as well
to steal the throne
before the others can tell

Like an improv choir
the Toadfish sings
at twice the speed
of a hummingbirds wing

The elusive midshipman
has been a mystery for years
and will soon be gone
when the bay mud clears
